Kaimuki

Known for its eclectic local character and convenience...

"Keep it Kaimuki"

-a local anthem

Kaimuki is an unforgettable neighborhood with eclectic character and charm. The area just outside Waikiki embraces its many hip and local businesses on the main drag, Waialae Ave.  Kaimuki is loved by the people who live there for its convenience to the H1 and short commutes. Yet, somehow it continues to feel worlds away with its quiet side streets lined by historic homes ready for your exploration!

Where to Eat and Shop:

Wai’alae Avenue has something for every shopper. While walking around, you'll find a few of our favorite mom-and-pop shops that are loved by locals and visitors alike! From little boutiques, coffee shops, yoga studios, trendy restaurants, and even urban pet supply stores - this street has it all!

Sprout, located on Koko Head Ave, is a gourmet, easy-to-order Sandwich shop with two locations and there’s always a line out of the door from the fellow business people in the area.

Keep it Simple, is keeping Kaimuki residents sustainable. Honolulu’s go-to zero-waste store has all of your household refill needs with minimal packaging.

Plantoem, is a community garden cafe that often hosts live events such as art classes, open mic nights, and terrarium workshops for the neighborhood kids.

Heiho House, is a modern Izakaya that puts your taste buds to the test with its astonishing small plate combinations. You’ll want to order one of everything on the menu, and that’s okay because they are always switching it up!

What to Do:

Mau’umae Trail, sits at the top of the Maunalani Heights neighborhood. It’s an out and back trail in which you can turn around at any point and reach breathtaking views of Honolulu and neighboring Palolo Valley in as little as 20 minutes. Many neighbors choose this trail for a beautiful sunset view over Honolulu. If you’re up for a longer adventure, the Ka’au Crater trail is a steep 5-mile loop in which you’ll pass 3 waterfalls and cross many different jungle terrains. It’s a favorite of many of the locals! In case getting muddy isn’t your cup of tea, Kaimuki is 10 minutes away from amazing south shore surf and beaches.

What to Expect - The Market:

Kaimuki generally consists of single-family plantation-style homes built in the mid to early 1900s. Many homes are the heart and soul of generations passed down and fixed up. This speaks to the fact that most Kaimuki residents love it so much they settle in to stay for good. Neighbors in Kaimuki are the kind that you always hope for. During sunset, people are always out on evening walks, runs, or chatting about local happenings. In 2021 home prices saw a 24% gain in appreciation and a new median home price of $1.2 million. Sellers in Kaimuki on average received 100% of the asking price and sold in 12 days.
