Hawaii may be paradise, but the North Shore of Oahu is the ULTIMATE paradise. About an hour from the hustle, bustle and nightlife of Honolulu, Oahu's North Shore is the complete opposite. The night and day difference between the condo towers and shopping centers of the island's urban core and the easy going, beach life of the North Shore is what attracts a certain type of person.
Life is laid back and rural on the North Shore — though much of the real estate is beachfront, oceanfront or adjacent to the water, making it some of the most prized property anywhere. On the weekends, the small-town vibe of the area is filled with locals and tourists hitting the beach, local restaurants and oceanside food trucks. Close your eyes and imagine ‘Aloha’ - this is what you’ll find on the North Shore
Where to shop and eat:
To the locals, North shore provides so much more than Big Waves. Spanning roughly 17 miles, the North Shore is one of the last places on Oahu that manages to “keep the country-country.”. The fertility of the land and rich soils are home to Sugar Cane Fields, the Dole Plantation, Chocolate and Coffee farms and so much more!! All of this yummy local produce can be found at the many famous food trucks along Kamehameha Highway, like Giovanni's Shrimp Truck. In the morning, don't be surprised to see the pros chowing down on an Acai bowl from Banzai Bowls after a dawn patrol surf session at the famous Pipeline. If you’re looking for a more formal sit down restaurant just down the road in Haleiwa Town there are excellent world renowned options. A few favorites being Uncle Bo’s, Haleiwa Joes, and Thai Bo.
What to do:
The Beaches- Ke Iki Beach, Sunset Beach, Banzai Pipeline, Waimea Bay, Laniakea— the list goes on and on! North Shore's beaches are considered to be among the best in the world. Unlike Honolulu these beaches are hardly crowded and you can beach-hop your way down Kamehameha Hwy all day and still not see them all! The white sands and year-round warm water on the North Shore's are just a few of the many reasons why this area has the most desirable real estate on Oahu, if not the planet. You might have also seen these beaches and not realized it in multiple hit movies and shows like ‘Lost’ or watching coverage of the surf competitions during the winter.
The Surfing- Oahu's North Shore is the world famous mecca of surfing. No matter where a surfer is from, they will want to surf the North Shore. The Triple Crown of Surfing — the Reef Hawaiian Pro, the O'Neill World Cup of Surfing, and the Billabong Pipeline Masters — all take place on the North Shore where the world's best compete. Whether looking to buy on the North Shore or not, if you are on Oahu during competition months this is a must experience! There is nothing more humbling than watching a 40 ft wave crash into the earth and clearly portray the ‘mana’ of these majestic Hawaiian Islands.
What to Expect - The Market:
Homes for sale in Oahu’s North Shore offer an array of diversity depending on your personal needs. There are traditional plantation-style homes, smaller walk up condos, gated townhomes, as well as single family houses which range from large lots zoned for agricultural use or spacious cliffside luxury estates with surf look outs!! If your tastes call out for more resort style living; that too is available at Turtle Bay Resort where many people buy for their ‘stay-cations’ and rental investments.. All types of property on the North Shore were equally sought after in 2021. Single Family homes increased 25% from the previous year to a $1,475,000 median price and sold in 12 days. Even more surprising was the total new inventory listed in 2021 was only 144 homes down 28% from 2020. The condos saw more moderate growth in 2021 at 8% increase with a median price $527,500 but they still sold in a record breaking 8 days. Additionally, there were only 62 new condo listings in all of 2021 on the North Shore. This shows it was a great time to be a seller in this region of Oahu and will likely continue to be a hot market throughout 2022.
